The Toronto Maple Leaf's lose once again
Game 7 of the 2025-2026 season, the Leaf's lose 5-2 vs the New Jersey Devils. What started out as a good game, John Tavares scored his 4th goal of the season to put the Leafs up 1-0 in the first period. However, this would change very shortly in the second period. The Leafs would end up letting in a goal to Jack Hughes for his first goal of the season. The Leafs' Head Coach, Berube, would challenge this goal for goalie interference. They would lose this challenge and get a delay of the game, giving New Jersey another power play. This would hurt the Leafs even more, giving Cody Glass of course a Powerplay goal for the Devils. A minute later in the game, Brenden Dillon scores his first goal of the season for the Devils, putting them up 3-1. However, 2 minutes later into the game, the Leafs are coming back into the offensive zone with a pass from John Tavares to William Nylander, who makes a sweet backhand pass to Matias Marcelli for his first goal with the Leafs this season. I start to think, ok, only down by one goal now, well, I would be wrong. 4 minutes left in the second period, Jack Hughes again with a breakaway slapshot, he scores, putting the Devils up 4-2. In the third period, the Leafs only put up 8 shots in the period. They looked so bad couldn't do anything offensively or defensively in the period. Jack Hughes would end up scoring a hat trick for the Empty Netter, sealing the 5-2 game win for the Devils. The Leafs are 3-3-1 on the season, not a very good look at all right now for this team. This team is always deciding my Health for these 9-12 months of hockey. Next game is Friday vs the Buffalo Sabers.
Hey Noah, I loved reading through your post about the game! I'm also a Leafs fan but I haven't gotten a chance to see much of the NHL this season so far. Hopefully they can pull things together soon because those loses really start to stack up over time. It sucked having to see Marner leave the organization this offseason, but after hearing the stadium boo whenever he touched the puck at home in the playoffs last season made me glad he got to get away from that negativity. I can only imagine how it felt getting booed by the fans of the team you grew up adoring.
